Kohli will cross many more milestones - Dasgupta (1:04)

The India captain went past 5000 runs in only his 63rd Test (1:04)

20- Centuries for Virat Kohli in Tests. He's the fifth-fastest, in terms of innings (105), to the landmark, behind Donald Bradman (55), Sunil Gavaskar (93), Matthew Hayden (95) and Steven Smith (99). Since Kohli's debut, only one player has scored more centuries than he has - Smith, with 21.

11- Indian batsmen to complete 5000 runs in Tests, with Kohli being the latest addition. He's the fourth-quickest among the 11 to the landmark. Gavaskar (95), Virender Sehwag (99) and Sachin Tendulkar (103) got there in fewer innings.

50- Innings for Kohli to complete 3000 runs as Test captain, the fifth-fastest to this feat. Bradman did it in a record 37 innings, Mahela Jayawardene in 48 and Graham Gooch in 49. Earlier today, Smith also completed 3000 runs as captain in the Adelaide Day-Night Test playing his 50th innings.

2002- The last time an India batsman scored three or more successive Test centuries; Rahul Dravid made four in a row. Kohli scored his third consecutive century after bagging a duck in the first innings of this series against Sri Lanka. Vijay Hazare (1949 to 1951), Polly Umrigar (1961), Gavaskar (twice: 1971 and 1978) and Vinod Kambli (1993) are the other India batsmen with three back-to-back Test match centuries.

6- Hundreds for Kohli, across formats, against Sri Lanka in 2017 - four in Tests and two in ODIs. No batsman has made more in a single year of international cricket against a single opposition. Desmond Haynes in 1984 and Tendulkar in 1998 had hit six tons against Australia previously.

110- Balls taken by Kohli to complete a century - his fastest in Tests. He had got one in 119 balls in the first Test of this series, which was his previous fastest. He got to his fifty in 52 balls, also his fastest. M Vijay scored his fastest half-century as well, off 67 balls.

6- Kohli has converted each of his last six fifties into hundreds, beginning from the 235 against England at Wankhede last year. He's the first India batsman to do so. The only player with a better conversion rate is Bradman, with 12.

283- Runs put on by Kohli and Vijay in partnership with each other - a new record for India against Sri Lanka. They took over from Mohammad Azharuddin and Kapil Dev, who added 272 for the sixth wicket in 1986-87.

2010- Last time an India opener scored three or more Test centuries in a year - Sehwag actually made five. Vijay is the first since then with three hundreds this year. It was also the first time he has scored centuries in successive Tests. With a hundred in the Ranji Trophy ahead of the Sri Lanka series, he now has three back-to-back first-class tons.

100 - Test wickets for Dilruwan Perera, in only his 25th Test, making him the fastest Sri Lankan to the landmark. He bettered Muttiah Muralitharan, who had done it in 27 matches. Dilruwan dismissed Shikhar Dhawan in his second over of the day to get his 100th scalp but went wicketless for the remaining 19 overs.
