A quick hundred by Werner Coetsee was the catalyst for North West's innings against Griqualand West at Potchefstroom as they rattled up 381 for 9 in 85 overs. Coatsee received solid support from the opener Driaan Steyn (74), and Juan le Roux (58). North West then took three wickets to leave Griqualand West on 77 for 3.
Ethy Mbhalati took 4 for 35 to help Northerns blow away Easterns for 131 on the first day at Benoni. Only Geoffrey Toyana (31) contributed anything valuable for the home side and, once he was dismissed, their innings subsided quickly. They performed better in the field, however, removing five of Northerns' line-up with 98 the board.
A devastating spell by Rowan Richards, who took 5 for 30 from 15 overs, decimated Eastern Province's line-up who could only manage 176 for 9 against Border. Eastern Province declared, hoping to take advantage of the conditions - but Border's openers responded confidently with both Gareth von Hoesslin and Bevan Bennett reaching half-centuries. After bringing up their hundred partnership, they fell in quick succession which spelt a collapse. They closed on 184 for 5 and hold a lead of 8 runs.
Mpho Sekhoto's 80 formed the foundation for Gauteng's innings against Free State, but no other batsmen passed fifty as they were bowled out for 242, with Ashley Schultz taking 5 for 51. In reply, Free State closed on 70 without loss.
