Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton figured to go in the first seven or eight rounds of most ESPN average live drafts before word of his turf toe injury, which during most of March did not seem too serious. After all, Upton was a top-20 fantasy outfielder last season with his 30 home runs and he has averaged that number of blasts over the past six seasons, and with a decent batting average. However, right around Opening Day the Angels announced Upton would miss at least two months. I expected fantasy managers to use their proverbial toes and punt Upton to free agency.
Some did, but Upton remains rostered in nearly two of every three leagues. That number only figures to grow with word the veteran outfielder, 12th among active players with 286 home runs, nears his season debut, perhaps as soon as this weekend.
