Gaston Ramirez and Middlesbrough crumble against Bournemouth

Middlesbrough have now made it 16 league games without victory as they look almost certain to plummet back down to the Championship after just one season of promotion.

The Teessiders self-destructed with defensive mistakes, a lack of organisation and the early sending off of Gaston Ramirez after he received two yellow cards in a short space of time. Bournemouth could have easily made the deficit much higher than 4-0 but they barely need to get out of first gear to claim this easy victory.

Positives

It's impossible to take any positives from this performance as Boro capitulated to seal their relegation fate and didn't deserve to get anything out of the game.

Negatives

A lack of shape, no sense of team spirit and fight, the attitude and body language of Ramirez and uncharacteristic poor defending made this a day to forget for Boro.

Manager rating out of 10

5 -- Agnew was at the mercy of the concession of an early goal followed by Ramirez's red card, which piled on the problems from the start. Boro were never able to get into the game from that point and the lack of quality options on the bench made it a very miserable day out for Agnew.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK Brad Guzan, 5 -- Not a great day out for Guzan as Bournemouth piled on the pressure following Boro's drop down to 10 men.

DF Antonio Barragan, 3 -- Bournemouth rang rings around the Spaniard and found lots of joy on his right wing.

DF Daniel Ayala, 3 -- Looked a different player after his excellent showing against Arsenal in midweek. Ayala was unusually laboured and fatigued and he struggled to compete.

DF Ben Gibson, 5 -- Always a battler, but Gibson was let down with the lack of shape of the defenders alongside him.

DF Calum Chambers, 2 -- Chambers returned from injury but certainly didn't look ready with his slow and rusty defending.

DF George Friend, 3 -- Friend was out of his depth and definitely nowhere near match fitness as he struggled away on the left flank.

MF Adam Clayton, 4 -- Even the usually reliable Clayton wasn't at the races as Bournemouth swamped the Boro midfield and total control was lost.

MF Marten de Roon, 6 -- Probably Boro's brightest player but his afternoon was cut short due to an early injury.

MF Stewart Downing, 3 -- Downing had one of those days where he seemed almost invisible and could not make an impact on the match.

MF Gaston Ramirez, 1 -- A disgraceful performance from last season's Championship hero. Ramirez looked disinterested and made reckless challenges that resulted in his red card on 20 minutes.

FW Alvaro Negredo, 4 -- Once again, a lonely figure up front who received little support and supply from the depleted midfield.

Substitutes

DF Fabio, 4 -- There were some positive moves from Fabio, who came on at 20 minutes, but Boro's backs were already against the wall by this point.

MF Adam Forshaw, 4 -- Injected some pace into a laboured midfield but didn't have the quality to change the game alone.
