Nils Petersen close to Freiburg move from Werder Bremen

Nils Petersen is on the verge of joining Freiburg from Werder Bremen with both clubs confirming negotiations are underway for the former Bayern Munich forward, who himself says a deal has been done.

Earlier on Monday, Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin told Sport1 there "has been contact between the two clubs and we are in talks with Nils.''

His Freiburg counterpart Jochen Saier told the Badische Zeitung that Petersen is "one of the most palpable candidates for the profile we have drawn up,'' adding that nothing had yet been signed.

On Monday afternoon, Petersen published on his own Facebook page that the move had gone through, although the announcement soon disappeared again.

"There was a lot of speculation about it, and now it's official,'' read his announcement. "I have just done my medical and signed a contract with Freiburg. I'm joining them on loan.''

Neither club have yet confirmed the deal, although it is likely only the results of that medical are being awaited before the transfer can be announced.

Petersen joined Bremen in 2012 from Bayern Munich, for whom he failed to make the breakthrough in only one season with the Bavarians.

He scored a total of 18 goals for Bremen in two and a half years.
