Baptistao at the double

A second brace in four days from Leo Baptistao helped Rayo Vallecano to a 2-0 Primera Division victory at Levante on Saturday night.Baptistao struck in the 12th and 33rd minutes to claim all three points for Paco Jemez's side at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia. It could have been worse for Jose Luis Mendilibar's side had Rayo striker Alberto Bueno not missed a 68th-minute penalty, but Levante were particularly toothless in front of goal and deserved nothing from this game.Rayo's victory saw them rise four places in the La Liga standings to ninth, with Los Franjirrojos accumulating eight points from their opening six matches.Levante, who have leaked 12 goals in their opening six league matches, sit third from bottom with just four points. Rayo beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 to secure their first league win of the season on Wednesday and were off to a flyer when Baptistao fired them in front with just 12 minutes on the clock. The in-form striker, who scored a brace to down Bilbao in midweek, made no mistake with his first chance on goal on Saturday night - despatching a low left-footed drive past Levante keeper Jesus Fernandez.Levante lost left-back Tono Garcia to injury moments later and their misery was compiled just after the half-hour mark when Baptistao evaded his marker and headed into the top right-hand corner to double his side's lead.Jose Luis Morales and Victor Perez Alonso replaced David Barral and Simao Mate Junior at the start of the second half as Mendilibar sought to find Levante a way back into the match.Rayo took their foot off the gas thereafter and, with a two-goal cushion, were more than happy to pass the ball about without committing too many men forward. The visitors then had the chance to score a third when they were awarded a penalty 22 minutes from time after Bueno was hauled down by Pedro Lopez Munoz in the area.Bueno stepped up but managed to blast the ball over the crossbar and, despite a number of other decent chances to add to their tally, they could not find a deserved third before full-time.
