Kevin Gameiro nets double as Sevilla make it eight home wins in a row
Kevin Gameiro scored twice as Sevilla beat Athletic Bilbao to move into the top six of the Primera Division for the first time this season. The Frenchman put the hosts in front midway through the first half by providing a classy finish to a quick team break and in the second half converted a controversial penalty to seal an eighth consecutive home victory in the league for Unai Emery's side.Sevilla have been let down by their abysmal away form this campaign and are still yet to win on the road, but they leapfrog the Basques thanks to this result. The visitors made the far better start, creating three clear chances in the opening 10 minutes, including an effort from Inigo Lekue which hit the bar.Sevilla had been unable to cause any danger due to imprecise passing in the final third but took the lead when Grzegorz Krychowiak fed Gameiro on the halfway line and the Frenchman released Vitolo and raced towards goal to send the return pass curling into the far corner.Athletic continued to dominate proceedings after conceding but they were sunk by a questionable decision by referee Eduardo Prieto Iglesias, who pointed to the spot when Krychowiak fell in the area, even though Athletic defender Aymeric Laporte had made no contact. And Gameiro sent Gorka Iraizoz the wrong way from the spot to score his eighth goal of the season, continuing his team's imperious home form.
