Las Palmas come from behind twice to claim vital point

Las Palmas twice fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at Athletic Bilbao and gain another point for their Primera Division survival battle. The Basques took the lead through Aritz Aduriz's 16th minute penalty but Las Palmas hit back just after the hour mark through Vicente Gomez, only for Inaki Williams to restore the hosts' advantage. But Tana pounced on a slip by Oscar de Marcos with eight minutes to go to peg them back again. The Canary Islanders are 15th in the table and are now two points above the relegation zone, while Athletic climb above Deportivo La Coruna and up to sixth.Las Palmas were buoyed by their impressive 4-1 win over Granada four days earlier and could have taken the lead as early as the second minute, Sergio Araujo meeting Tana's cross and forcing Gorka Iraizoz to tip away for a corner. A minute later Raul Garcia had Athletic's first chance, taking advantage of an error by Aythami Artiles and forcing a good stop from Javi Varas.Athletic went ahead when David Simon blocked Markel Susaeta's shot with his hand, allowing Aduriz to score front the spot to take his tally to 21 goals for the season.Vicente Gomez found a deserved equaliser for the visitors by taking advantage of the second ball following a blocked shot from range, but Williams pulled Athletic back in front almost immediately. The 21-year-old harassed the Las Palmas defenders into making a mistake and then drove the ball into the far corner.Athletic became complacent as the minutes ticked away, and De Marcos' poor clearance allowed Tana to shoot beyond Iraizoz first time to win a point for Quique Setien's side.
