Rayo Vallecano register first win of the season at the expense of Las Palmas

Javi Guerra's first goal for Rayo Vallecano kick-started their Primera Division campaign as they registered a first win by beating Las Palmas 1-0.

Guerra, who joined Los Franjirrojos as a free agent on transfer deadline day, converted Roberto Trashorras' pass four minutes before the break and that proved the decisive moment of the match.

Although the scoreline represents a narrow victory for Vallecano, they created a stack of chances throughout the game as Adrian Embarba, Guerra and Bebe all had opportunities to make their evening more comfortable.

Las Palmas remain winless from their four games and they were never in this one, as the visitors attacked from the off, with Embarba and Guerra having chances in quick succession, with a fine save from goalkeeper Raul keeping the score goalless.

Guerra thought he should have had a penalty when he went down in the area while Embarba headed over as Vallecano's dominance continued.

Eventually that was rewarded in the 41st minute when the 33-year-old Guerra broke his duck when he poked home Trashorras' through ball.

Paco Jemez's outfit had chances to extend their lead during the second half as Bebe twice shot over from the edge of the area, his first effort grazing the bar, while Raul also saved Jozabed Sanchez's cross-shot.

Substitute Manucho missed two late chances to put the game to bed, the second putting a simple header over from Razvan Rat's cross.

But the visitors had to settle for one, with the three points moving them off the foot of the table.
