Newcastle send goalkeeper Tim Krul to Ajax on season-long loan

Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has signed a one-year contract extension with the Magpies -- and joined Ajax on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old committed his future to the Championship side until the summer of 2018 but will spend at least half that time in his homeland with the Dutch giants.

Ajax moved to land Krul following the departure of Jasper Cillessen earlier in the day to Barcelona, who in turn lost Claudio Bravo to Manchester City.

Krul, who has won eight caps for Netherlands and has made 185 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions since joining the club in 2005, is currently recovering from injury.

He suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament last October but is back in training and could be available again next month.

Meanwhile, striker Adam Armstrong joined Krul in pledging his future to the Magpies.

The 19-year-old, who scored 20 goals in a loan spell at Coventry last season, signed a new four-year deal at St James' Park.
