The French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed Brandao's six-month suspension for head-butting Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta.
Brandao, 34, was caught on camera head-butting Motta, 32, in the players' tunnel at the Parc des Princes after PSG's Ligue 1 victory over the Brazilian striker's Bastia side in mid-August, leaving the Italy international midfielder with a broken nose.
The FFF's Appeals Commission upheld the decision of the French Football League's Disciplinary Commission to ban the former Shakhtar Donetsk and Marseille forward for half a year, sidelining him until mid-February.
Injured in training with his club this week, Brandao may be out still longer as the right-thigh tendon problem he sustained means he is unlikely to be able to train for three months.
The ex-Saint-Etienne man, who only joined Bastia from Les Verts last summer, faces a court hearing into the incident with Motta on Nov. 27.
