D.C. United have acquired U.S. Under-23 international goalkeeper Charlie Horton from the New England Revolution, the franchise announced on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Horton, who most recently played for Leeds United in the English Championship, moved in a sign-and-trade deal for which New England received allocation money.

"Charlie is a talented young goalkeeper who has a bright future and we are very pleased to have him join us," United general manager Dave Kasper said in a team statement.
Horton, who was born in London and raised in the U.S., had left Leeds in November to deal with a private family matter at home in America, and had his contract terminated just over five months after joining the club on a free transfer from Cardiff.
Horton was a member of the Americans' Olympic qualifying squad in October but did not play. Though he did start in an under-23 friendly against Brazil the following month.
