Vardy, Slimani a lively duo but poor start sees Leicester draw with Cherries

Leicester City couldn't get the win they needed to ensure a top-half finish, but a strong second-half display in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth helped end the season on a relative high.

Positives

Jamie Vardy and Islam Slimani haven't always been on the same page this season, nor have they started many matches together. However, the pair looked lively and linked up well. If they can work on their partnership in the offseason they might be a potent duo next campaign.

Negatives

Leicester started very poorly, looking a lot like they were in preseason mode, but they at least woke up after the break and were the better side thereafter. The lack of defensive depth was also apparent with Yohan Benalouane being replaced by Daniel Amartey, further underlining the need to swoop for a centre-back this summer.

Manager rating out of 10

7 -- Craig Shakespeare picked another strong XI as he strived to avoid three straight losses and was unlucky in the end not to close out this campaign with maximum points. He's surely done enough to get a new deal, which should be confirmed in a matter of days. The only criticism of the boss was perhaps not giving the departing Marcin Wasilewski a small cameo at the end with a sub to spare.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK Kasper Schmeichel, 7 -- Saved Lys Mousset's first-minute shot, but Junior Stanislas was waiting to beat the goalkeeper. Did make a world-class stop to deny Dan Gosling, though.

DF Danny Simpson, 6 -- A solid end to the season from the dependable right-back, although he could have got forwards a bit more.

DF Yohan Benalouane, 6 -- Outmuscled Ryan Fraser in a spirited battle, but was taken off after picking up a yellow in the second half.

DF Christian Fuchs, 7 -- Used his potent long throw as Leicester's main weapon during a tame first half.

DF Ben Chilwell, 6 -- Blazed an early chance wide on the volley, but looked pretty composed at the back.

MF Marc Albrighton, 6 -- Seemed to lack a bit of spark, but has had an excellent end to the season, very much putting him in the England frame.

MF Wilfred Ndidi, 6 -- Had a couple of half chances with headers and certainly wasn't afraid to burst into the Bournemouth box.

MF Andy King, 6 -- A bit like at Manchester City, worked hard but failed to really stamp his authority on the game.

MF Riyad Mahrez, 6 -- Did his best to offer energy and creativity, but lacked a final product at times. That didn't discourage him, however, from trying to score with a bicycle kick.

FW Islam Slimani, 7 -- Had a sluggish start with a couple of poor first touches, but grew into the game and got the assist for Vardy's equaliser. Did miss a sitter, though, to win the game late on.

FW Jamie Vardy, 7 -- Deserved to finish the season with a goal and was unlucky to see another one ruled out for offside. Looks back to his old self now.

Substitutes

DF Daniel Amartey, 6 -- Came on for Benalouane as a makeshift centre-back, but doesn't look at all comfortable playing there.

MF Demarai Gray, N/R -- Helped Leicester finish the game strongly, but has closed the season having played limited minutes and despite his inconsistencies his pace and raw talent may mean there are some high-profile suitors chasing him this summer.
