The Spain international, whose existing deal had been due to expire in the summer of 2019, has won the Bundesliga title in every season since his arrival along with twice claiming the DFB Pokal.
"It's a great fit here. My family and I are very happy in Munich," Thiago told the club's official website. "I want to win a lot of trophies with Bayern in the future."
Thiago also took to Twitter to express his happiness at "continuing my journey with the Bayern family."

Thiago, son of former Brazil 1994 World Cup winner Mazinho, is currently enjoying his most prolific season at the club with eight goals and assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.
In the video, he adds: "I want to win more games and more titles. I especially want to win the Champions League and I'll stay here as long it takes to win that trophy."
After agreeing terms with Thiago for a further two years, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Thiago is one of the best and therefore one of the most sought after midfielders in Europe.
"We are very pleased that we have been able to secure this outstanding player's services on a long-term basis."
