Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri has undergone successful surgery to reconstruct a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The Brazil-born Italy defender suffered the major injury to his left knee midway through the first half of Roma's 3-2 Serie A victory over Genoa on Sunday.

A statement published on Roma's official website on Monday said "the surgery went as planned and the defender will now begin a rehabilitation programme.''
Emerson, who signed for Roma from Santos in December, had just been called up into the Italy squad for matches against Uruguay and Liechtenstein.
The 22-year-old made 23 appearances for the Giallorossi in the 2016-17 campaign, scoring once against Villarreal in the Europa League.
