Nevada fires coach David Carter

Nevada Wolf Pack coach David Carter says he has been fired after five seasons.

Carter, 47, took over the reigns after Mark Fox left for Georgia in 2009.

Carter led the Wolf Pack to the NIT in his first season at the helm and also went to the NIT in 2012.

However, he has not made an NCAA tournament appearance in his tenure.

Carter was 74-58 in his first four seasons, and the Wolf Pack finished 9-22 and 5-13 in Mountain West play this past season.

Carter was an assistant under Trent Johnson and Fox when Nevada went through a six-year stretch in which the program went to the NCAA tourney four times.
