The Bradley Braves have hired Green Bay's Brian Wardle as their new coach, the school announced Friday.
"After an intense and strategic search, it thrills me to announce the hiring of Coach Brian Wardle," Bradley athletic director Chris Reynolds said in a statement. "He has a track record of success as a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach and both his work ethic and personality are a great fit for Bradley University."
Wardle spent five seasons with the Phoenix, amassing a 95-65 record. They reached the NIT the past two seasons but were knocked out in the first round both times. Green Bay won the Horizon League regular-season title in 2013-14.
"It's an honor to be the next head coach at Bradley," Wardle said in a statement posted on the school's website. "Being from Illinois and understanding the program's success, tradition and support was a real draw for me. I am excited to bring my family to Peoria, getting to know the community and building a foundation and identity for Bradley Basketball to last a long time."
Wardle replaces Geno Ford, who had only one winning season in his four years at Bradley. Ford was fired Sunday after the Braves went 9-24 this season.
Wardle will be introduced at a news conference Saturday.
After making the Sweet 16 in 2005-06, Bradley participated in a series of secondary postseason tournaments, including the NIT in 2006-07 and the CBI in 2007-08, in which the Braves lost a best-of-three series to Tulsa for the title. The school dismissed Jim Les in 2011 and brought on Ford.
