The Bowling Green Falcons fired basketball coach Chris Jans after an inquiry into his public conduct, the school announced Thursday.
"The University concluded that Jans' public conduct failed to meet his obligations as a head coach and the expectations that BGSU Athletics has for its coaches," Bowling Green said in a statement.
Assistant coach Mark Downey will oversee the day-to-day operations while the school searches for the 17th head coach in the program's history.
Jans and the staff were informed Thursday morning.
Jans guided the Falcons to a 21-12 record in his first season. The 21 victories marked a nine-game improvement for Bowling Green from last season.
The Falcons went 1-1 in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament after an 11-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference.
