The Indiana Hoosiers have suspended Devin Davis from all basketball activities after the forward was cited for possession of marijuana, the school announced Tuesday.
After receiving a complaint about the smell of marijuana smoke coming from an on-campus apartment, Indiana University police discovered marijuana in Davis' backpack and he was cited for possession under 30 grams. In its statement, the school said Davis' teammate, Hanner Mosquera-Perea, also was present but not cited by the police.
Coach Tom Crean said that additional action could be taken, pending a review of both players.
Davis missed all of his sophomore season after being struck by a car driven by freshman teammate Emmitt Holt, the most serious in a string of off-court problems and violations that marred the start of the year for the Hoosiers. Davis suffered a serious head injury and Holt, who was underage, was charged with illegal consumption and was suspended for four games.
Stan Robinson and Troy Williams also missed four games apiece to start the year for failing drug tests in the summer.
On the heels of a disappointing 2013-14 campaign, the preseason suspensions put the heat on Crean. The Hoosiers rallied to finish 20-14 this season, but lost to Wichita State in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Just last month, guard Yogi Ferrell announced he would return to Indiana for his senior season. That decision, coupled with a roster that includes a host of returning players, served as a positive sign for Crean and the Hoosiers.
