UTSA hires Oklahoma's Steve Henson as head coach

SAN ANTONIO -- Steve Henson, a member of Lon Kruger's Oklahoma men's basketball coaching staff for five years, has been chosen to be the head men's basketball coach at Texas-San Antonio.

In a statement Friday, UTSA said Henson will be introduced as coach of the Conference USA's Roadrunners on April 8.

At Oklahoma, Henson helped mentor the Sooners' guards, including two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Buddy Hield.

Henson served as an assistant on Kruger's UNLV staff from 2004 to '11, after one season as an assistant at South Florida in 2003-04, two at the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and one at Illinois.

Henson was a starting point guard at Kansas State from 1986 to 1990. He earned honorable mention All-America and team captain honors in his final two seasons.
