Canisius coach Jim Baron is retiring, the school confirmed to ESPN.
Baron, 62, has been the head coach of the Golden Griffins basketball team for the past four seasons, compiling a 73-59 overall record. He went to the CIT the first three years and finished 14-18 this past year.
Baron agreed to a three-year extension in March that went through 2020. Assistant Pat Clarke will take over as the interim head coach, effective immediately.
Baron has two sons, Jimmy and Billy, who play together on a team in Belgium.
"He wants to see his sons play," one source told ESPN. "And he wants to be a grandfather."
Baron was the head coach from St. Bonaventure from 1992-2001 and Rhode Island from 2001-12.
