Jerry Slocum retires after 12 seasons as Youngstown State coach

Youngstown State men's basketball coach Jerry Slocum is retiring after 12 seasons, the school announced Tuesday.

"After 42 years of head coaching, I have been blessed and honored to have coached so many great young men and the privilege of working alongside some great assistant coaches," Slocum said in a statement. "At this time I'm announcing that I'm retiring from coaching and have loved every moment that I was called 'Coach.'"

Slocum, 65, was 129-211 entering this past season. The Penguins were 13-21 this past season and 5-13 in Horizon League play.

Slocum was previously the head coach for nine seasons at Division II Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he led the Golden Knights to a 179-78 mark and six consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
