Milwaukee announced Wednesday it has fired head coach Pat Baldwin Sr. after five seasons.
Baldwin took over in 2017 after LaVall Jordan left for Butler, but had yet to lead the Panthers to a .500 finish. Milwaukee finished 10-22 overall this season, 8-14 in the Horizon League.
"On behalf of our entire program and the UWM community, we thank Coach Baldwin for his tireless work and for his time as the head coach of our program," athletic director Amanda Braun said. "We appreciate Pat's genuine commitment to our student-athletes, whether that was on the court, in the classroom, or as a mentor to young adults. We certainly wish him and his family all the best moving forward."
Milwaukee's season ended Tuesday with an 11-point home loss to Illinois Chicago in the first round of the Horizon tournament.
Baldwin was 57-92 overall in his five seasons.
He is the father of Milwaukee forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., a former top-five recruit in the 2021 class who was limited to 11 games this season because of injury. A projected lottery pick entering his freshman season, Baldwin Jr. dropped to No. 25 in ESPN's latest 2022 NBA draft rankings.
With his father departing Milwaukee, Baldwin Jr. could still opt to turn pro -- or enter the transfer portal and go elsewhere for his sophomore season. He chose the Panthers over Duke, Georgetown and Virginia coming out of high school.
