Philadelphia Phillies right-handed reliever Juan Nicasio was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain.
Manager Gabe Kapler said Nicasio's strain is "pretty mild" but that Nicasio needed the break because he also has been feeling tightness in his quadriceps.
Nicasio, who was acquired from Seattle in the offseason, has a 5.24 ERA in 34⅓ innings pitched.
Left-hander Austin Davis, who was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, filled Nicasio's roster spot and pitched the eighth inning Thursday night against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed three earned runs, all on a three-run homer by Dansby Swanson, and the Braves won 12-6.
