Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said forward Daniel Winnik lost a piece of his ear while blocking a shot during Thursday night's 4-2 win against the Panthers in Sunrise, Florida.
Winnik attempted to block a shot from Reilly Smith during a late third-period power play. The puck hit him in the head as he went down to the ice.
"He got the puck sort of in the ear hole, and it sort of pinched off his ear," Trotz said. "Trainers looked at him, and he was just fine -- just missing a piece of his ear. It was just a small piece, but it got chewed up."
Winnik has scored two goals this season.
