You can never accuse Northampton full-back Ben Foden of failing to keep himself busy. He's got the popstar wife, is expecting a second child, has business interests, does a bit of modelling and has the small matter of a professional rugby career with Northampton and England to juggle, too.
But he's taken on another rather more unexpected role: Foden is set to appear in a Christmas special episode of British soap opera Hollyoaks.
The show, which is broadcast daily and remains an after-school favourite of teenagers, is set in Chester, where Foden was born. The plot is a rollercoaster ride of murders, marriages and all sorts of other mishaps that may or may not reflect real life in Cheshire in 2014.
Foden is set to appear as himself and will help (along with a collection of other 'rugby hunks') a character called John-Paul McQueen make it to his wedding after he finds himself waylaid and could miss the big day. By all accounts, Foden is quite the hero and saves the day.
The episode is an hour-long Christmas special and will be broadcast on Christmas Eve. the scenes have already been filmed, so there's no going back for the Saints full-back.
