The Top 14 saga involving Stade Francais and Racing 92 is set for one final chapter this season with the final playoff place and automatic Champions Cup place to go before the NRL.

Following their failed merger earlier this year and a heated Parisian derby last week, they fought it out for the final playoff spot in the Top 14 on Saturday. Dan Carter led Racing 92 to victory, while Morne Steyn missed an injury-time conversion as Stade Francais lost to Montpellier 27-26.

But that wasn't the end of it, as a report in French newspaper L'Equipe claimed that, following their defeat to Montpellier, Stade Français lodged a complaint with the NRL after they felt Montpellier's Jacques Du Plessis should have been suspended for the clash.

Du Plessis had picked up his third yellow card of the season -- which results in a one match suspension -- against La Rochelle the week previous and Stade argued he should have been suspended for the match.

Montpellier insist they got the permission of the NRL to play Du Plessis [who was a second-half replacement] but, should Stade be awarded five points for the victory, it would see them dislodge Racing 92 for sixth place in the Top 14, the final Top 14 playoff spot and the final automatic Champions Cup qualification place.
