Connacht and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) have announced the signing of NSW Waratahs fly-half Andrew Deegan.

Former Australia Under-20 international Deegan joins the 2016 PRO12 champions one day after fellow No. 10 Marnitz Boshoff was released from the final year of his contract on compassionate grounds.

"I am really excited to get the opportunity to join Connacht and have only heard great things about the club, the community, and how supportive the fans are," Deegan said.

"I am delighted to become a part of that and I hope I can add to the success Connacht have enjoyed in recent times."

Assistant coach Nigel Carolan believes Deegan will be an astute addition to the Connacht squad.

"Andrew is a very highly-rated young player who has already gained a lot of experience in Australia," he said.

"He has huge potential and we are delighted to welcome him to the province."
