Champions Cup team news: Wasps hand Juan de Jongh Euro debut

The second round of the Champions Cup kicks off with Bath's Pool 5 trip to the Parc y Scarlets Friday. The visitors kicked off their campaign with victory over Treviso last weekend while the Scarlets were unlucky to lose narrowly at Toulon. Both will be keen to keep pace with the Top 14 club.

Elsewhere, Munster host Racing in Pool 4 while Exeter travel to Montpellier, Saracens host Ospreys and there is an all-Aviva Premiership tussle in Pool 1 as Wasps welcome Harlequins to the Ricoh Arena.

Check back with ESPN to get all the team news ahead of another stacked weekend of Champions Cup pool stage action.

FRIDAY

Scarlets vs. Bath

Parc y Scarlets, 7.45 p.m.

Wales and British & Irish Lions hooker Ken Owens returns to captain the Scarlets. Owens is joined in the front row by international colleagues Wyn Jones and Samson Lee. Lock Lewis Rawlins and back row Will Boyde are also selected up front. In the backs there are starts for Gareth Davies and Hadleigh Parkes. Head coach Wayne Pivac has labelled the clash with Bath "must win" following last weekend's defeat at Toulon.

Fly-half Rhys Priestland will start on his return to the Parc y Scarlets with Bath. Priestland, who has missed his side's last two matches with injury, returns to the starting XV alongside his Wales teammate Luke Charteris. The Bath starting XV is otherwise unchanged from the team that beat Treviso last time out, although Nathan Catt has been named on the bench and could make his 150th appearance for the club as a replacement.

SATURDAY

Clermont Auvergne vs. Northampton Saints

Stade Marcel-Michelin, 3.15 p.m.

Ex-Auckland Blues fly-half Piers Francis is set to make his first start at stand-off for Northampton as he replaces Stephen Myler in the side that was well beaten by Saracens last Sunday. Jim Mallinder has rung the changes from that match, with eight changes in personnel in all, including Tom Collins coming in at wing for the injured George North and Harry Mallinder's installation at fullback. Tom Wood, Api Ratuniyarawa, Christian Day and prop Jamal Ford-Robinson also take their places in the starting XV.

Clermont will field much the same team as the one that triumphed over the Ospreys last weekend. The only change in their backline sees Isaia Toeava replacing Scott Spedding at fullback. Sitaleki Timani and Flip van der Merwe form a new partnership in Clermont's engine room whilst flanker Peceli Yato serves a suspension. England winger Dave Strettle starts out wide with fellow Englishman Nick Abendanon among the replacements.

Saracens vs. Ospreys

Allianz Park, 7.45 p.m.

Mark McCall has made three changes to the team that thumped Northampton last week -- Schalk Brits rotates with Jamie George at hooker, Juan Figallo is in for Vincent Koch and Duncan Taylor comes in at centre for Marcelo Bosch. Giant Australian lock Will Skelton could make his first appearance of the season from the bench and fly-half Owen Farrell continues his halfback partnership with Richard Wigglesworth.

The Ospreys have injury problems with Rhys Webb and No.8 Dan Baker both hobbling off against Clermont last week -- Tom Habberfield is in for Webb and James King replaces Baker. Hooker Scott Baldwin makes the bench following his lion-bite injury and Jeff Hassler comes in for young winger Keelan Giles out wide. Adam Beard is in for Bradley Davies at lock and Sam Parry replaces Scott Otten at hooker.

Glasgow Warriors vs. Leinster

Scotstoun Stadium, 1.00 p.m.

British & Irish Lions fullback Stuart Hogg is back in the Glasgow starting XV for the first time this season having recovered from shoulder surgery this summer. Fellow Lion Tommy Seymour joins him in the back three alongside Leonardo Sarto. Hooker Fraser Brown faces a spell on the sidelines after being injured in the defeat to Exeter -- George Turner replaces him. Centre Sam Johnson is also in for Nick Grigg.

Leinster are boosted by the return of fly-half Johnny Sexton, with the Lions star having recovered from a dead leg to take over the captaincy from the injured Ica Nacewa. Noel Reid comes in at 12 in Nacewa's place and Fergus McFadden starts on the right wing having featured from the bench against Montpellier. There are two changes in the front row with Cian Healy and Sean Cronin taking up their places alongside Tadhg Furlong.

Leicester vs. Castres

Welford Road, 5.30 p.m.

Matt O'Connor has only made two changes to the Leicester side that claimed a bonus point in the 22-18 defeat to Racing 92 last weekend. Centre Gareth Owen is in line to play his first Champions Cup tie for the club having been named at outside centre to take over from Matt Smith. Meanwhile, in the pack Mike Williams serves a one-match ban meaning Valentino Mapapalangi goes from the start at blindside flanker.

It's all change for Castres though with a new front row formed by Mihaita Lazar, Damien Tussac and Marc-Antoine Rallier. Also in the pack Anthony Jelonch and Alex Tulou come into the back row, whilst in the backline Armand Batlle, Thomas Combezou and Yohan Le Bourhis offer fresh legs. The ever-dangerous David Smith takes up his place on the wing and France scrum-half Rory Kockott continues at nine.

Munster vs. Racing 92

Thomond Park, 5.30 p.m.

Munster director of rugby Rassie Erasmus voiced his frustration with the 17-17 draw against Castres last weekend and he's forced into two changes for Saturday with Niall Scannell and Tyler Bleyendaal missing through injury. Rhys Marshall is in at hooker for Scannell whilst Ian Keatley takes over at fly-half. Better news for the Irish province sees Jean Kleyn return from injury at lock, and Tommy O'Donnell wins his 150th Munster cap at openside.

The big news for the Parisians sees Dan Carter return from injury at stand-off, partnering Maxime Machenaud in the halfbacks with Teddy Iribaren and Remi Tales moving to the replacements. Pat Lambie makes his first European start at fullback, Anthony Tuitavake is in at 12 to replace Henry Chavancy and Louis Dupichot comes onto the wing. Eddy Ben Arous, Camille Chat and Ben Tameifuna form a new front row whilst Antonie Claasen is named at No.8.

Benetton Rugby vs. Toulon

Stadio Comunale di Monigo, 3.15 p.m.

With a strong start to their Guinness PRO14 campaign Benetton will fancy their chances of getting something out of this game, and are boosted by Edoardo Gori's return at scrum-half. Jayden Hayward is named at fullback with Luca Sperandio moving to the left wing in place of Tommaso Benvenuti. Dean Budd comes in for Marco Fuser at lock while Nasi Manu and Braam Steyn are named in the back row.

For Toulon there's a new halfback pairing with Francois Trinh-Duc replacing Anthony Belleau at fly-half and Anthony Meric switching with Eric Escande at nine. Hugo Bonneval moves onto the bench with Fijian Semi Radradra coming onto the wing and former Saracen Chris Ashton starting at fullback. Rudy Gahetau also comes in at openside in place of Raphael Lakafia.

SUNDAY

Montpellier vs. Exeter

Altrad Stdaium, 1.00 p.m.

Montpellier head coach Vern Cotter has made just two changes to his starting XV following last weekend's 24-17 defeat to Leinster in Dublin. Benoit Paillaugue starts at fly-half with Thomas Darnon dropping out of the 23, while in the front row Romain Ruffenach replaces hooker Bismarck du Plessis. Cotter has named a strong-looking team that includes Frans Steyn at 12, bullocking winger Nemani Nadolo on the wing and former Northampton man Louis Picamoles at No.8.

Exeter also just make just two changes with Welshman Tomas Francis replacing Harry Williams at tighthead and Thomas Waldrom coming in for Sam Simmonds at No.8. Waldrom came on as a replacement in the win over Exeter last week and made a big impact on his return from a broken foot. On the replacements bench prop Alec Hepburn and scrum-half Will Chudley replace Carl Rimmer and Stuart Townsend respectively.

La Rochelle vs. Ulster

Stade Marcel Deflandre, 3.15 p.m.

The team from France's west coast have made three alterations to their side in their first ever home fixture in the Champions Cup. Vincent Rattez moves to fullback from wing and Kini Murimurivalu drops out of the matchday squad. Paul Jordaan moves to the bench and has been replaced at 13 by Pierre Aguillon whilst in the forwards Botia Veivuke starts on the blindside flank and Kevin Gourdon moves to openside.

For Ulster there's a special occasion in store for Andrew Trimble with the Ireland star in line to start on the right wing, meaning he'll become the province's most-capped player - he's currently stuck on 221 caps alongside Roger Wilson. Hooker Rory Best could make his first appearance of the season from the bench, Iain Henderson skippers the side from the back row where he's joined by Chris Henry at openside.

Wasps vs. Harlequins

Ricoh Arena, 5.30 p.m.

The culmination of the weekend's Champions Cup action takes place at the Ricoh where Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has named Juan de Jongh at 13 for his European debut. Tom Cruse added to Wasps' injury problems with the hooker breaking his thumb last week -- Ashley Johnson starts in his place. Young is able to name Guy Thompson on the bench as he returns from the medical room -- Dan Robson and Jimmy Gopperth continue in the halfbacks.

Young's fellow director of rugby John Kingston has made minimal changes to his Harlequins side that were defeated by La Rochelle last week. Joe Gray comes in to start at hooker with Dave Ward moving to openside, Chris Robshaw switching to blindside and Ben Glynn dropping to the bench. Archie White is not included in the matchday 23.
