David Moyes apologises to abused Eddie Jones on Scotland's behalf

West Ham United manager David Moyes has apologised to Eddie Jones for the behaviour of the Scottish fans who abused him last Sunday.

Jones was subjected to verbal and physical abuse as he took a train alone from Edinburgh to Manchester, and again as he journeyed home to London later that evening.

The incidents have led the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to review its security protocols, while the England coach has vowed not to use public transport again.

Hammers boss Moyes -- who was unable to accept an invitation watch England train last week -- condemned the behaviour of those involved on Friday as he revealed he had been exposed to similar attacks in the past.

"Firstly, let me say that I'm a really proud Scotsman and I apologise to Eddie Jones for any behaviour of any Scottish supporters, because that does not represent our public," he told a news conference.

"We're really passionate about our country but to go to that extent is completely wrong.

"But I do know because I'm in that position, it has happened to myself on numerous occasions as well, so you have to try and avoid it as much as you can."

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Ruth Davidson, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, were among public figures who retweeted the Scottish Rugby Union's statement on the incident Thursday.

The SRU condemned the "disgusting behaviour" of those who abused Jones, while head coach Gregor Townsend said it was "hopefully something we will never see again."
