Warren Gatland has returned to New Zealand following the death of his father.

The Wales head coach received the news overnight and returned to his homeland Tuesday morning to be with his family.

In a statement, the WRU confirmed the news: "The national squad players, management and the whole of the WRU would like to extend their condolences to head coach Warren Gatland and his family following the passing of his father overnight.

"Warren has returned to New Zealand and we are sending our thoughts and best wishes to him."

It is unlikely that Gatland will miss any of Wales' autumn campaign, which begins with a clash with Scotland on Nov. 3 before fixtures against Australia, Tonga and South Africa.
