Wallabies call up Samu Kerevi into the centres for Bledisloe III

Just weeks after returning from the Tokyo Olympics, Samu Kerevi has been called into the Wallabies starting side for Bledisloe III slotting in at inside centre to replace Matt To'omua.

Former Wallaby forward Izack Rodda will also make his first appearance in the gold jersey since the 2019 World Cup, named as a replacement.

Ringing in the changes ahead of Bledisloe III, Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has also brought in Folau Fainga'a as hooker, playing his first Test of 2021, joining an all-Brumbies front row alongside James Slipper and Allan Alaalatoa.

Parachuted into the squad in August, Kerevi flew into Perth straight after leaving hotel quarantine in Sydney as part of the new relaxed Giteau Law.

Kerevi last pulled on the gold jersey in 2019 and labelled his call-up into the squad as a "massive blessing" after he believed he'd never get the chance to play for the Wallabies again, but with a series whitewash on the line and the Wallabies desperate for points on the Rugby Championship table, Rennie has turned to the experienced star to lead a young Wallabies backline.

Kerevi will partner Len Ikitau in the centres, with Rennie placing his trust in halves combination Tate McDermott and Noah Lolesio to start in their third straight Tests. Meanwhile, Marika Koroibete and Andrew Kellaway have retained their positions on the wings and Tom Banks remains at fullback.

Upfront, Rennie has retained an unchanged second row in Matt Philip and Darcy Swain, while Michael Hooper will captain the side for the 58th time, just one behind decorated Wallabies captain George Gregan. He'll be joined by Lachie Swinton at blindside and Rob Valetini at No.8.

Similar to the All Blacks position, the Wallabies have also seen the departures of two stars, Hunter Paisami and Lukhan Salakai-Loto from camp, as they await the arrival of their babies.

"It's great to be able to call on the experience of Samu and Izack this weekend with Hunter and Lukhan leaving the group to be with their partners in what's a really exciting time of their lives.

"Both Samu and Izack have worked really hard since joining the group, been positive additions and have earned their opportunity to pull on the gold jersey on Sunday afternoon at Optus Stadium.

"The past three weeks in Perth have given us a chance to train hard on the field, refresh off it and connect with the local community.

"We are excited about the chance to be back on home soil and put in a performance that all of our supporters can be proud of."

Rennie has also named a solid bench with Lachlan Lonergan named to make his first appearance in a Bledisloe Test as reserve hooker, while Angus Bell has been brought back into the side as the replacement loosehead alongside Taniela Tupou.

Rodda will make his appearance as replacement lock, while Brumbies' backrower Pete Samu has been selected for his first international appearance this year.

Meanwhile the replacement backs will bring plenty of experience with Nic White and Reece Hodge, while Jordan Petaia will bring some spark if he takes to the field.
