Former Wallabies captain Michael Hooper is inline to make his World Series Sevens debut after he was named in the Australia squad for the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens in two weeks.

Failing to reach last year's Rugby World Cup squad, Hooper made the switch to sevens with the aim of reaching the Paris Olympics in July later this year.

A four-time John Eales Medalist with 125 caps for the Wallabies, Hooper has been dogged by injuries since he made the switch to the sevens program with his debut delayed several times as he dealt with an Achilles injury.

"'Hoops' has worked hard to make his way into the squad, and we're all delighted to welcome the 'rookie' into the mix," Australian men's coach John Manenti said.

"Like any new player it will be a learning experience for him, and an important start point to a potential Paris Olympics.

"Every pool is tough and ours is no exception with Fiji first up and then LA winners France to kick off day one action. We'll need to be at our best."

The men's sevens team will be looking to bounce back following two disappointing finishes at the Vancouver and Los Angeles legs of the series.
