Judd Trump keeps alive hopes of back-to-back titles at English Open

MANCHESTER, England -- Judd Trump kept alive his hopes of winning back-to-back ranking events by reaching the final of the English Open.

Trump, who won last week's European Masters, has the chance to become the first player since Ding Junhui in 2013 to claim consecutive ranking titles after overcoming Barry Hawkins 6-2 in Saturday's semi-final.

Hawkins took the first frame with a break of 64 but was soon 3-1, with Trump knocking in 88 in the third frame. Hawkins' 114 in the fifth was the only century of the match but it proved the last frame he would win as Trump took the next three to progress.

The 27-year-old Bristolian will play Liang Wenbo in Sunday's final after he defeated Stuart Bingham 6-5 in the other semi-final clash.

The standard was high with big scoring from both players, with Wenbo knocking in 134 and 138 to come back from 4-2 down to clinch victory in the decider.
