Sweet Awakening
Entry Alert: Saturday, May 24, Hollywood Park (Race 5)
On Saturday, my eyes are eager to see what the 4-year-old filly SWEET AWAKENING brings to the table in her debut. Bred in Kentucky and bought at the Keeneland September sale back in 2005, SWEET AWAKENING has rattled off an impressive series of drills over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park. Her last three drills were all six furlongs. This filly completed each drill with plenty of run in reserve. In her final drill, she demanded attention with a stylish six-furlong breeze. M.C. Baze was in the irons as she rattled off steady splits -- 24.40, 1:13.40 -- while exhibiting an easy-moving, athletic stride. SWEET AWAKENING always left me with the feeling there was another gear or two left untouched. I think this girl has some real quality. Jerry Hollendorfer knows how to get a debut horse ready to run. Baze also has taken time to get acquainted with this girl in the mornings. Plus, the daughter of Street Cry is bred to be a runner. Those are all good reasons to jump on board for this gal's unveiling.
