We've identified the top all-time quarterbacks for every NFL team, and asked our NFL Nation beat reporters -- and you, the fans -- to help us determine each signal-caller's place in franchise history.
What follows is the final ranking of the top quarterbacks in Miami Dolphins history, both from our NFL Nation reporter and our final fan polling.
NFL Nation ranking:
1. Dan Marino
2. Bob Griese
4. Jay Fiedler
5. Chad Pennington
The top two for the Dolphins are no-brainer selections and a pair of Hall of Famers. The quality drops off significantly after that, where Tannehill is the next-best choice. Tannehill is third in franchise history in passing yards (18,455) and touchdowns (106) just five years into his career and will only add to those numbers. Tannehill also has a better career completion percentage (62.7) than both Griese (56.2) and Marino (59.4). The toughest selection was the No. 5 pick between Pennington and Earl Morrall. Both players made a sizable impact in Miami with a small sample size. Morrall posted an 11-1 record with the Dolphins during his career, which included filling in for the injured Griese during Miami's perfect 1972 season. Pennington was stellar for one full season in 2008 to win 11 games and get Miami to the playoffs. But because of injuries, Pennington played just four games for the Dolphins the next two seasons before retiring. However, Pennington's passing numbers with the Dolphins are superior to Morrall's in nearly every major category. -- James Walker
