Rafael Nadal could meet the top contenders at Wimbledon as early as the fourth round after the two-time champion was seeded 10th for Friday's draw.
The All England Club announced the seedings - which also take into account grass-court results - on Wednesday, sticking mainly to the ATP rankings where Nadal, who won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, has slipped to 10th.
The Spaniard lost in the first round of Queen's Club, after winning on grass in Stuttgart the previous week.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic is the top seed, followed by Roger Federer, Andy Murray, French Open champion Stan Wawrinka, and Kei Nishikori.
Aside from his first appearance at the tournament when he was unseeded in 2003, Nadal has always previously been seeded in the top five.
Wimbledon have stuck strictly to the LTA rankings for the women's seedings. Serena Williams is No.1, followed by defending champion Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, and Caroline Wozniacki.
Last year's losing finalist, Eugenie Bouchard, is only seeded 12th after a poor season. The Canadian retired at 6-4 3-0 down against Belinda Bencic in the second round at Eastbourne on Wednesday due to injury.
