LONDON -- Jamie Murray says he will welcome Aljaz Bedene, the newly-qualified Briton, "with open arms" if the Slovenian-born player becomes eligible to play in the Davis Cup final.

Murray will join up with Great Britain's Davis Cup team next week after the end of the ATP World Tour Finals, where he won his debut match with doubles partner John Peers on Sunday. The pair saw off Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 7-6 (5), 3-6, 11-9.

His younger brother, Andy, practised on the indoor clay-court with Bedene at Queen's Club this week and the British No.2 is set to find out at an International Tennis Federation hearing on Tuesday if he can feature in the final against Belgium in Ghent at the end of the month.

"If they hadn't changed the rule last November, [Bedene] would have been available to play all the matches this year," Jamie Murray said. "He's been living in the UK for 5, 6 years.

"I hope for his sake that he's eligible to play. He's done the right process, cleared all the obstacles that needed to be cleared. They decided to change the rules a couple of months before he's able to participate in Davis Cup.

"If he gets the green light, for me, if he does get selected, welcome him with open arms. He's British, he's done what he needs to do. I'm sure he'll be a valued member of the team."

Murray and Peers will go their separate ways next year, having reached two grand slam finals together in 2015, and are looking to go out on a high note.

The Scot revealed he has been practising on clay with his brother this week "for some doubles stuff" ahead of the clash against Belgium which gets underway on November 27, when Great Britain will look to win their first Davis Cup title since 1936.

"It's exciting for me, lots to look forward to, obviously starting with today," Murray said. "It's a huge event for us.

"We worked hard all year to qualify for this tournament. We want to make the most of our time here. When that's done, then I'll think about Davis Cup.

"We just want to do the best we can, finish on a high, try to make a great year even better."
