LONG BEACH, Calif. -- There was plenty of hype heading into the Brewers-Athletics matchup on Day 4 of the Area Code Baseball Games considering both squads are loaded with talent. Then there's the battle for bragging rights, as the Brewers are represented by players from Southern California, while the A's feature players from Northern California.

And the game lived up to the expectations, with the two teams delivering an exciting performance.

Brewers 3, Athletics 2

Offense has been the story throughout the Area Code Games. But the game of the week ended up being a pitchers' duel between the Brewers and the Athletics.

The A’s got on the board in the third inning when Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) catcher Dominic Miroglio belted an RBI double.

Then the A's pitching staff went to work and had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning, with the Brewers down to their final three outs. The Brewers rallied, tying the game on a bases-loaded walk and then taking the lead when Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) infielder Ryan McMahon drove in two more runs with his single, which was the Brewers' first hit of the day.

The A's loaded the bases in the bottom of seventh, but were only able to plate one more run.

Yankees 3, Royals 1

The Yankees and Royals entered their matchup on Wednesday looking to rebound after the two squads each suffered a pair of losses in their first two games.

Yankees starter Mark Armstrong did all he could to make sure his team got the win. The Clarence Central (Clarence, N.Y.) right-hander and Pitt commit tossed three innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts and left the game with a 1-0 lead.

The Yankees pushed two more across in the fourth with hits by Williamsville North (Williamsville, N.Y.) first baseman Tyler Green and Kentridge (Kent, Wash.) infielder Joe Wainhouse.

White Sox 14, Nationals 11

The Nationals played a pair of games on Wednesday and started off the day strong against the White Sox with seven runs on four hits in the first, sending nine men to plate.

Then Nationals starter Alex Hagner of Eustis (Fla.) ran into trouble in the second, as the White Sox scored three runs and were helped by a pair of errors.

The Sox completed the comeback thanks to Owasso (Okla.) shortstop Andrew Rosa, who knocked in three on a bases-loaded double. Rosa, rated No. 59 in the ESPN 60, finished his incredible day 3-for-3 with seven RBIs.

Yukon (Okla.) catcher Jonathan Denney drove in three more runs for the White Sox with his blast to left-center in the fourth. The home run, which was the fifth overall at Area Code, traveled an estimated 435 feet.

Reds 8, Nationals 4

The Nationals struck first for the second time today, getting out to an early 3-1 lead against the Reds. But the Reds stormed back with five runs in the second to take a 6-3 lead.

Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Ariz.) first baseman and Arizona commit Michael Hoard delivered the big hit in the inning for the Reds, driving in two with his single.

Another big hit in the inning came when Michael Hoard (Tucson, Ariz.) drove in two with a RBI single. Hoard, who had a two-run homer on Tuesday, has had a great week so far.
