Caden Nelson, Monona Grove High School

Year: Senior.

Sports: Basketball, cross country, tennis.

Sports highlights: Caden is a three-time letterwinner and two-year starter in basketball as a point guard. The Silver Eagles clinched their second straight Badger South Conference title on Feb. 19. As a senior, he has served as a co-captain and was averaging 22.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game entering postseason play. As a junior, he earned All-Area honorable mention and Badger South Conference first-team honors after averaging 16.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. He also received the team’s Playmaker of the Year Award. Monona Grove also advanced to the WIAA Division 2 sectional finals.

A four-time letterwinner in cross country, Caden earned all-conference second-team honors as a junior. The Silver Eagles won three straight conference titles and advanced to the WIAA Division 1 state meet his sophomore and junior seasons.

He is a three-time letterwinner in tennis as a No. 3 singles player entering his senior year and was sectional runner-up at No. 3 singles as a freshman. He will serve as a co-captain as a senior.

Pre-game ritual or superstition: Eat Ramen noodles and ice cream.

Cumulative GPA: 3.9.

Favorite subject/class: Mathematics.

I got my start in sports: When we bought a mini hoop for our basement.

I wish I could play: Football and hockey.

My most memorable moments in sports: Finishing second at state tournament in eighth grade for basketball.

I like about high school sports: All the friends I play with and the playoffs/state runs.

I enjoy playing basketball because: There is so much action, and you can always make up for your mistakes.

My role models are: Steph Curry and my older cousins, Mark Jr., Luke and Max.

This and that: Member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Choir, Chess Club, and National Honor Society … is a tennis instructor… member of High Honor Roll throughout high school … volunteer work includes: coaching at youth basketball camps … played AAU basketball with Wisconsin Academy for five years and with Wisconsin Bluebirds last year.

Hobbies: Playing Video Games and Rapping.

Post-high school plans: Attend college to study Education and play basketball.
