Sportsbooks are back open for business in the state of Nevada, and bettors are wasting no time.
On Saturday, one bettor wagered $1 million on Amanda Nunes to defeat Felicia Spencer at -600 odds at UFC 250. The bet at William Hill US sportsbook in Las Vegas netted the individual $166,666.70, as Nunes won by unanimous decision.
William Hill said it was the largest bet it had ever taken on an MMA event.
William Hill moved Nunes to a -650 favorite (Spencer +450) after the wager.
Nunes, when told about the wager after her victory, described the bet as "awesome."
"Now he's very happy," she said of the bettor. "He'll probably, like, go and drink something. He should ask me to go with him."
While this was the fifth UFC event since the sport returned from a layoff because of the coronavirus pandemic, it was the first with Nevada sportsbooks reopened. The state's sportsbooks were given the green light to reopen at 12:01 a.m. PT on Thursday.
