Countdown to college football: 22 days

Despite historic talent losses on both sides of the ball, Ohio State and Urban Meyer bring back a loaded roster that could again end the Big Ten season -- and maybe the College Football Playoff -- with their arms raised. Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Since Week 12 of the 2014 season, the Ohio State Buckeyes have sustained a level of ranking no one else has. For 22 consecutive polls, the Buckeyes have been featured in the top 10 of the AP Top 25, the longest active streak in the nation.

After starting the 2014 season at No. 5, a loss to Virginia Tech dropped Ohio State as far down as No. 23. From that point, the Buckeyes lost one game -- through the end of the 2015 season.

The Buckeyes have quite a way to go until getting to the school record 71 top-10 rankings in a row, set from 1972 to 1976, but they're well on their way. The 2016 preseason AP poll will be released Aug. 21.
