Derrick Henry passes Ken Hall

Yulee (Fla.) High School four-star running back Derrick Henry broke the national career-rushing yards record during a 41-26 playoff victory against Perry (Fla.) Taylor County on Friday night.

Henry, a 6-foot-3, 238-pound Alabama commit, surpassed Ken Hall's previous record of 11,232 yards on a 52-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Hall, who held the record for nearly 60 years, played at Sugar Land (Texas) High School from 1950-53.

Henry finished the night with 482 yards and six touchdowns on 58 carries. He now has 11,612 yards and 148 TDs in his career.

"Breaking this record means a lot to me," Henry said. "I'm glad I could share it with my coaches, my teammates and all of Yulee. They all helped me get to this point. I don't think it will really hit me until I'm done with football."

Henry said he spoke with Hall on Thursday.

"He congratulated me and told me to always stay hungry and to work hard and make sure I get my education," Henry said.

Entering the night, Henry needed 102 rushing yards to pass Hall. In 11 games this year, Henry has not been held below 200 yards rushing. He has run for 3,752 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Henry, No. 26 in the ESPN 150 and the No. 3 athlete in the country, has rushed for more than 100 yards in all 45 high school games in which he has played. He set Florida's single-game rushing record earlier this season with a 510-yard performance against Jacksonville Jackson.

Henry's 148 touchdowns now rank sixth on the all-time list.
