LOS ANGELES -- Lane Kiffin and the USC coaching staff have already begun wading into another recruiting class that will be limited to 15 scholarships due to NCAA sanctions. That number could balloon to 18 total recruits, provided the Trojans bring in three early enrollees that will count against the 2012 class. The Trojans' staff has been at work on the class of 2013 for months, but with the spring evaluation period set to begin Sunday, WeAreSC takes a look at some of the top targets throughout the country, positions of need, and where the class stands at this time.
Quarterback
Needing a top-tier quarterback in this class, the Trojans swung for the fences and connected, grabbing an early commitment from Max Browne (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline), who stands as one of the top signal callers in the class. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Browne is the kind of quarterback that will fit well in the Trojans' pro-style offense. As an added bonus, Browne plans to enroll early and will lead the recruiting charge for the Trojans up until signing day.
Running back
The lack of bodies at running back has been well documented during USC's spring practice. And that issue is exacerbated by the fact that no true tailback was signed in the 2012 class. Nelson Agholor and Jahleel Pinner could get looks at tailback, but Agholor is likely better suited at wide receiver, as Pinner is being brought in more as a fullback. The limited number of bodies at the position has allowed the USC coaches to go after running backs in a big way. While several offers went out across the country, things seem to be pointing distinctly toward Justin Davis (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln) and Ty Isaac (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic). Davis has visited USC twice this spring -- most recently with his parents and brother -- after which he spoke highly of the Trojans. Isaac visited USC in March and also enjoyed his time spent with the Trojans coaches. If USC is able to coax another unofficial visit out of Isaac this spring or fall, it would speak volumes about where it stands in his recruitment.
While attention seems to be focused on those two, plenty of other out-of-state tailbacks hold offers as well, including Tyshon Dye (Elberton, Ga./Elbert County), Ryan Green (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg Catholic), Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) and Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga./Norcross).
