LOS ANGELES -- When college coaches visit high school campuses during the spring evaluation period, every recruit is hoping to hit a metaphorical home run during that workout. This past Thursday, with USC quarterbacks coach Clay Helton in attendance, defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes (Auburn, Calif./Placer) took that sentiment literally.
After Helton filmed Vanderdoes during a weight room session, he was in attendance for an afternoon baseball game in which Vanderdoes went 3-for-4 and crushed a home run over the centerfield fence.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman also struck out 16 batters in a six-inning pitching outing, recorded three RBI and stole a base.
