Jitu Rai starts as favourite for pistol clean sweep

Having already secured Gold in the 10m air pistol event, defending champion Jitu Rai will start as the overwhelming favourite in his pet 50m pistol event. Rai looked someway short of his best in the final of the 10m air pistol but still managed to win gold comfortably. If he wins gold tomorrow, he'll join Samaresh Jung and Omkar Singh as only the third Indian to win both these events at a single edition of the Games.

Ankur Mittal will also start as one of the favourites for gold in men's double trap. However, the event will also feature James Willett, Tim Kneal and Steven Scott, who finished second, third and fourth respectively at the Rio Olympics. A podium finish will be a creditable achievement and Mittal's biggest medal to date as double trap is no longer a part of the Olympics.

Men's double trap: Qualification - 4.30 am, Final - 11.15 am

Mary Kom eyes maiden final appearance

She might be India's most decorated boxer, but MC Mary Kom would be desperate to make the women's 48 kg category when she takes on Sri Lanka's Anusha Koddithuwakku in the semi-finals. Mary, a five-time world champion and an Olympic medallist will, start as favourite against the Sri Lankan. Anything less than gold in this event would be considered a failure for the vastly experienced Indian.

Can Tejaswin Shankar break India's athletics drought?

At just 19, Tejaswin Shankar is already India's most successful high jumper in history and also holds the national record. He can become the first Indian to medal in high jump at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.

Unlike shooting or weightlifting, athletics has a really strong field in most events at Gold Coast. Of the 13 jumpers in the final, eight have a higher personal best than Shankar, which means he'd have to better his personal best of 2.28m to stand a chance of finishing on the podium and finishing India's long-running drought in high jump.

There's also medal hopes in the women's 400m final, for Hima Das secured her place after recording her personal best of 51.53 during qualification on Tuesday.

Timings

Men's high jump final: 1.35 pm

Women's 400m final: 5:15 pm

India and England battle it out for top spot in men's hockey

India and England have both advanced to the semi-finals from Pool B but their final Pool match will determine who tops the pool and most probably avoids Australia in the semi-finals. India are ranked a spot above England at sixth in the world rankings and the result of this match could be the difference between India winning silver or bronze as top-ranked Australia are the overwhelming favourites for gold.

India's forwards have been on song in this tournament, scoring eight goals in three matches but their defence has let them down, conceding six goals in three matches. By contrast, England have conceded only two and keeper PR Sreejesh, who has been India's most impressive player so far, might hold the key in this match as well.
