In the end Angelo had too much to do and kept losing support. But Pakistan deserve a lot of credit for applying the stranglehold and not letting things slip after they got rid of Sangakkara and Dilshan. Fittingly, it was Afridi who turned things around with that direct hit to send back Sangakkara. What also didn't help Sri Lanka was that the final Powerplay had too many dot balls. You could see that Mathews was struggling for confidence. It was always going to be difficult getting the spinners away.
All in all a fascinating one-day contest. These close chases of scores involving 250 always make for compelling viewing. We will be back for the presentation.
Hafeez is the Man of the Match: "It was a bit hard to time the ball because it was stopping a bit. It was a bit tough bowling in these conditions but the captain had confidence in me."
Dilshan: Sanga's riun-out and my dismissal was disappointing. The bowlers did really well to come back in the last 20 overs. I should have batted through."
Misbah: At one stage we were looking to score 300 but we kept on losing wickets. The bowlers did a really good job for us, especially Hafeez. We were hopeful that once we made their required run-rate over six, we were in with a good chance."
So Pakistan were the deserved winners today. They applied the pressure when it mattered the most. Thanks for joining us today. The next game is on Sunday at Sharjah. Same time. We'll see you then. Cheers!
