World No. 2 Peter Wright enjoyed a comfortable start to his PDC World Championship campaign as the opening round concluded in London.
Doubts were cast over Wright's participation at the showpiece Alexandra Palace tournament after he was rushed to hospital on Nov. 30 with suspected gallstones. However, the Scot recovered to claim a 3-1 victory over Brazilian debutant Diogo Portela Thursday.
Elsewhere, James Richardson stunned No. 18 seed Kim Huybrechts with a 3-0 victory to continue the theme of first round shocks.
Darren Webster held his nerve to see off Devon Petersen 3-2, while Spaniard Toni Alcinas defeated compatriot Cristo Reyes 3-1 to book his spot in round two.
