Weekend stats: Cristiano Ronaldo 66, Karim Benzema's first since Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski 19

Chelsea becoming Hislop's Premier League favourites (1:38)

Shaka Hislop says he's starting to see Chelsea as Premier League favourites after comfortably beating Spurs. (1:38)

Goals, VAR drama, controversy, and some more goals. And that was just West Ham United vs Manchester United. This weekend saw goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard help United keep pace with Liverpool and Chelsea (those two have had identical results in the opening five games) at the top of the Premier League table.

In Serie A, Juventus are 18th - no, seriously - after drawing with joint table toppers AC Milan. Inter Milan, sharing the top spot meanwhile, smashed six past Bologna. In France, a 93rd minute winner saw Paris Saint-Germain beat Lyon and continue their perfect start to the season - six wins in six.

Across the border, in Spain, two goals in the last four minutes of regulation time saw Real Madrid beat Valencia, while ten-man Atletico Madrid were held by Athletic Bilbao. Those two remain atop the league. In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich smashed seven unanswered past Bochum. Combine that with Wolfsburg drawing Eintracht Frankfurt and the top of the league has a very familiar look to it.

By The Numbers brings you the best stats from the weekend that whizzed past.

Premier League

Manchester City had just one shot on target in the whole game against Southampton (Phil Foden, 90th minute). This is their lowest in a PL match since 8 March, 2017, when they had just one against Stoke City.

This is the first time since 2015-16 that Harry Kane has failed to score in his first four PL appearances of a season. He has attempted just four shots in this current campaign.

On a more positive note -- Brighton and Hove Albion didn't win their 4th game until matchday 21 last season (on 31 January). They've won four of their first five this season.

This is the first time since 1985-86 that Leeds have failed to win each of their opening five games of a league season (they were in the second tier at the time).

Sadio Mane is the first player in Premier League history to score in nine consecutive games against a single opponent. Crystal Palace really must hate the sight of him.

Norwich have lost each of their last 15 PL games under Daniel Farke -- this is now the longest losing run by any side in English top-flight history under a single manager.

In sharp contrast, Chelsea have now kept more clean sheets (15) than they have conceded goals (14) in the PL under Thomas Tuchel.

Manchester United have won 35 points from losing positions in PL matches since the start of last season. The next closest? Liverpool and Leicester City, both with 20 points.

This is a quite incredible stat. Including shoot-outs, David de Gea saved a penalty for the first time since April 2016 for club and country, He had conceded 40 consecutive penalties before denying Mark Noble in stoppage time on Sunday.

Jimmy Greaves tribute

Jimmy Greaves died on Sunday, aged 81. No one has scored more goals than he has in the history of English top-flight football. He scored 357 goals in 516 games. Astounding numbers.

Greaves' 41 goals in 1960-61 remains a record in a season for Chelsea, while his 37 in 1962-63 remains a Tottenham Hotspur record.

Karim Benzema is the first player to be directly involved in 11 goals (6 goals, 5 assists) in the first five games of a LaLiga season in the 21st century after Lionel Messi (who had 13 -- eight goals and five assists -- in 2011/12).

Inaki Williams' consistency is quite incredible. The Athletic Bilbao forward has now played in 200 consecutive LaLiga appearances. He's the second to reach the landmark after Jon Andoni Larranga (202, with Real Sociedad).

Serie A

This is just the fourth time in their history that Juventus have not won any of their first four games in a Serie A season, after 1961/62, 1955/56 and 1942/43.

Juventus have dropped seven points from winning positions in the league this season. Among Europe's top five divisions, only Burnley have dropped more (8).

Inter Milan have scored in their last 23 league games; they have done better only in 1950 (24)

Bundesliga (AKA Robert Lewandowski scoring streak watch)

The man has scored in 19 consecutive games in all competitions for Bayern Munich now. He is the first player to score in 13 consecutive home Bundesliga matches - breaking the record previously shared by Jupp Heynckes (12 in 1972-73) and Gerd Müller (12 in 1969-70).

Messi-Ronaldo watch

Lionel Messi was replaced as PSG went in search of a winner. Cristiano Ronaldo scored and had a handful of penalty claims rejected.

This is the second time in the last 3 seasons that Lionel Messi has not scored in his first 3 matches of a season (all competitions).

West Ham's London Stadium is the 66th different stadium that Cristiano Ronaldo has scored at in matches played in Europe's big five leagues. He has scored at more unique venues than any other player since his Man Utd debut in 2003-04 -- ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic (64).
