Ex-Chelsea youth prospect Nortei Nortey emulates Jamie Vardy goal

He may be scoring big goals for Leicester City and England these days, but it seems that Jamie Vardy's influence is still being felt in non-league football.

Barely two days after Vardy made headlines with a brilliant flicked finish to beat Manuel Neuer during England's 3-2 comeback win over Germany in Berlin, Welling United star and former Chelsea youth prospect Nortei Nortey paid his own tribute with an almost identical goal from a corner to beat Woking in the National League.

Nortey, who was released by the Blues at the end of his scholarship in the summer of 2013, met Scott Kashket's low corner with an improvised flick at the near post that left the Woking goalkeeper rooted to his line.

It was the 21-year-old defender's first goal in senior football and secured a win that keeps Welling's faint hopes of avoiding relegation from the National League alive. More importantly, however, it was caught on video, meaning Nortey's moment of brilliance can be enjoyed just as easily as Vardy's.
